Macy's is the latest retailer to drop its Black Friday ad ahead of schedule

Macy's, the picture-perfect holiday department store destination, is doing things a bit differently this year.
Thanks to the coronavirus, customers likely won't be storming the mall at 5 a.m. like they have in past years. Macy's announcement that it will remain closed on Thanksgiving Day (compared to opening at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving to kick off Black Friday in the past) hits it home that kitchen and home sale devotees won't have to plan around as many in-store only deals.
Macy's is also participating in another shopping trend this year: Releasing Black Friday ads way ahead of time. Following in the footsteps of retailers like Walmart and Dell, Macy's dropped its Black Friday 2020 ad on Oct. 26 — a full two or three weeks before its mid-November release dates in 2018 and 2019. Prime Day happening in October made the holiday shopping spirit kick in early, apparently.
