Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi says it was "encouraging" to see both newly- signed strikers Peter Shalulile and Kermit Erasmus score in the opening Premiership clash against rivals Kaizer Chiefs.
Namibian Shalulile scored the first goal late from a set-piece, while Bafana Bafana forward Eramus netted his goal in the second stanza before a Themba Zwane penalty sealed an emphatic 3-0 victory.
Speaking to the media during the post-match press conference, Mngqithi said the Brazilians now boast a healthy group of scoring forwards.
"Over the past three seasons we've not been scoring enough goals," said Mngqithi.
"We've been creating a lot of opportunities and working very hard to improve those statistics, but they've not really been coming up.
"We're just fortunate that our defensive record is normally good but with Kermit, Gift Motupa, (Mauricio) Affonso, Gaston (Sirino) and Shalulile we should hope for a little bit better in terms of the numbers we can collect from them.
"It's encouraging to see them playing together for the first time. I believe there is still a lot of room for improvement. The intensity was not at the level which we wanted.
"And Kermit also died a little bit in the second half before he scored. But it is encouraging that both scored in their first league match."
After he scored, Erasmus was substituted for Lebohang Maboe early in the second half with many assuming he picked up a serious injury.
"We don't think Kermit's injury is a very serious injury. He was already getting tired at the time," Mngqithi stressed.
"Maybe he started to feel some niggling issues. We honestly don't think it is something serious. We believe we might still have him [ready] for the next match."
Sundowns are back in action against Premiership new-boys Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) on Wednesday.
