CHENNAI: VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan on Saturday said he will face legally a case registered against him by the Tamil Nadu police. The case was registered against him based a complaint filed by a BJP functionary.
“My 40-minute speech was edited and cut short into six minutes. It was circulated in social media by the Sanatana gang to instigate communal violence and use it as a political tool to disturb the DMK alliance. But DMK leader M K Stalin gave a befitting response to fanatics. Similarly, the leaders of the alliance parties and democratic forces stood firm against such elements and supported us,” Thirumavalavan said while speaking at a protest in Chennai demanding a ban on Manusmriti.
Ridiculing BJP’s new entrant Khushbu who wanted Thirumavalavan to apologise for his allegedly misogynistic remarks, the VCK leader categorically said he would not tender an apology. “I quoted Manusmriti and said what was written in it,” he said and once again read out the controversial portion and explained it.
Thirumavalavan clarified that the protest was not against any community but against the doctrine that denying equal rights to women and objectifying them. “We will continue the protest in a democratic way until we succeeded in our goal,” he said.
Thirumavalavan reiterated that his intention was not to hurt anyone. He also said that the fanatics and Sanatana ideologues were trying to reinforce Manusmriti in the last few years through different means and ways. “Our fight is against the doctrine that is a stark contrast to Indian Constitution, which was framed by Dr B R Ambedkar to ensure equal rights for everyone,” he added.
