India has got the chairmanship of the Governing Body (Governing Board) of the International Labor Organization (ILO) after a long gap of 35 years. Apoorva Chandra, Secretary, Union Labor Ministry, has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors. He will chair the governing board meeting in November next month.
According to the ministry, after three and a half decades, India has got the chairmanship of the board of directors of ILO. Labor Secretary Chandra will hold this post from October 2020 to June 2021. Meeting the chairmanship of the ILO board is an international achievement.
This is a milestone in the link between India and the ILO for over 100 years. The Board of Directors is the apex executive body of the ILO. It elects policies, programs, agendas, budgets, and director generals. The ILO has 187 members.
