BJP questions silence of Cong, Rahul on Hoshiarpur rape

New Delhi, Oct 24(UNI) Questioning the silence of the Congress and party leader Rahul Gandhi on the alleged rape and killing of a six-year-old girl, belonging to a migrant family from Bihar, in Hoshiarpur in Punjab, the BJP on Saturday accused the opposition party of 'selective outrage ' on rape cases across the country.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters, senior BJP leader and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, questioning the silence of Rahul Gandhi on the rape incident in Hoshiarpur, said, 'Not a word from the tweet-friendly leader Rahul Gandhi on the incident in Hoshiarpur. No tweets on this, no outrage on this, and no picnic on this. A woman heads the party.

In the Hathras rape case, it seemed as though they were all going out for a picnic. The brother and sister (Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) ran towards the village. But why not in the case of Hoshiarpur or Rajasthan? The selective outrage of the party has been completely exposed. Does this selective outrage suit the Congress party? At least 35 MPs were flamboyant in their statements on Twitter in the case of Hathras. Where are those 35 MPs today?”

According to reports, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped, killed and then set on fire, with her half-burnt body found at a home in Tanda's Jalalpur village. The reports said that the accused -- Gurpreet Singh and his grandfather Surjit Singh -- were arrested on the charges of murder, rape and under other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Charging the Congress and Rahul Gandhi of politicizing the Hathras gangrape case, Nirmala Sitharaman said, 'no rape should be politicised. But because we want our political games to be played, we are selective about voicing horror when it is in some states and remain in absolute silence when it is in states governed by Congress party.'

She also questioned the silence of RJD leader and Bihar chief ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav, who is contesting the Assembly elections in alliance with the Congress, on the matter.

“The same question is for Tejashwi Yadav who is contesting the Bihar elections in a forceful manner. The child was the daughter of a migrant worker in Punjab. Didn’t you check it up when you had a joint campaign in Bihar?, 'the senior BJP leader said.
