External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Friday that as a founding member of the United Nations, India has done a lot for the success of the global body and will continue to work strongly in accordance with its goals and the expectations of the member countries.
He was speaking after the release of the commemorative stamp on the completion of 75 years of the United Nations. The postal department also issued postage stamps in 1954, 1985, and 1995 on the ninth, 40th, and 50th anniversary of the United Nations respectively.
Jaishankar said, as a founding member of the United Nations, India with its soul worked in formulating the principles of the United Nations and making peace. India has also played an important role in sending peacekeepers to UN peacekeeping missions.
He said the United Nations did a commendable job as a platform to bring the countries of the world together and fulfill their dreams of a better future for humanity. India looks forward to its eighth term as a temporary member of the UN Security Council. India has been elected as a temporary member of the UN Security Council for a two-year term. His term will start from January 2021.
India, Japan, America, and Australia come together keeping in mind the changing times: Jaishankar
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Friday that the coming together of India, Japan, the USA, and Australia under the Quad or Quadrilateral alliance is a reflection of the changing landscape and the evolving landscape of the multi-polar world.
He said that every scenario and phase in the geopolitical balance of power makes its own thinking and strategy. He said that independent India would express itself in different positions while maintaining its consistency in the overall outlook.
In a conference organized by the Public Affairs Forum of India, he referred to changes in the global balance of power and Western dominance over the past few decades, including the Cold War, and said the emergence of China is a major geopolitical event.
