J&K Police cracks cross border, narcotics, arms smuggling case, seven held

Jammu, Oct 24 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to cracked the high profiled case of cross border smuggling of narcotics and arms/ammunition with the arrest of seven persons.

Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh here told reporters that during the intervening night of September 19-20 a smuggling bid was foiled by joint party of Jammu Police and BSF 42 Bn at Bullay Chak near BSF Budhwar Post at IB Arnia and recovered huge consignment of 61 packets Heroin, one packet of opium, two pistols, three magazines and 100 live cartridges during the search operation in the wee hours etc and accordingly a case was registered.

He said that during the basis of investigation it was found that on the fateful night one Jash Raj Singh of Sai Kalan and Subash Chander of Sai Phagala at the behest of Sham Lal Shama of Arnia had gone to zero line on India-Pakistan IB near Budhwar BSF Post to collect the Narcotic and Arms consignment dropped from across the border by Pakistani Smugglers (identity being established).

"In the meantime their suspicious movement was noticed and exchange of fire started at the spot and these two persons taking the advantages of darkness managed to escape leaving behind the huge consignment of 61 packets of heroin, one packet of opium, two pistols, three magazines and 100 live cartridges which were recovered by the joint teams of Police and BSF during the search operation in the wee hours," said the IGP.

During the course of further investigation, he said that the involvement of accused persons namely Jash Raj Singh, Subash Chander, Sham Lal Shama, Gurbakash Singh, Bishan Dass Raju, Ajit Kumar and Guru Partap Singh of Taran Taran Amritsar Punjab figured and surfaced who were nabbed by Special Teams of Police by simultaneously raids at different locations in J&k and Punjab and put to sustain interrogation who confessed their involvement in the case.

Mr Singh said that the accused persons from Arnia, used to go at zero line to collect the Narcotic/Arms dropped from across the border by Pakistani Smugglers and further deliver it to Sham Lal alias Shama, who used to handover the consignment to others and in return used to get Rs 2 lakhs per packet from Guru Partap Singh in lieu of the exchange of consignment Narcotics.

This high profile case of cross border smuggling of narcotics/arms has been worked out by Police teams comprising Inspector Harjeet Singh SHO P/S Arnia, Inspector Jai Paul Sharma SHO P/S R.S. Pura headed by Sh. Shabbir Khan, SDPO R.S. Pura, under the close supervision of Raja Adil Hamid SP Headquarters Jammu and overall supervision of Shridhar Patil, SSP Jammu.

The investigation of the case is still in progress and more arrest and recoveries are expected in near future.
