Odisha covid tally surges to 2,79,582 with 2,54,418 recoveries, toll mounts to 1229.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 24 (UNI) The covid tally in Odisha today shot up to 2,79,582 with the detection of fresh 1695 cases while the toll went up to 1229.

Health and Family Welfare department sources said in the past 24

hours 15 deaths were reported from 12 districts raising the covid fatalities in the state to 1229.

While two each died in Sundargarh, Khordha and Mayurbhanj districts, one each died in seven districts while under treatment.

Ganjam, Khodha and Cuttack are the three top districts reported 225, 210 and 105 deaths respectively till date.

Next to these, Puri district registered 81 deaths followed by Balasore ( 64), Sundargarh (58)and Mayurbhanj( 55).

Sources said in the past 24 hours 986 covid positive cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 709 as local contact cases.

Among the 1695 cases, Khordha continued to report the highest number of 183 cases followed by Balasore(128), Sundargarh ( 110)and Cuttack (103 ).

Till date Khordha district has reported 47,353 positive cases, the highest in the state and Cuttack district with 25,104 remained in the second position and Ganjam with 21,1004 cases stood third.

Three more districts such as Puri, Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj districts have each reported more than 10,000 positive cases.

Sources said the covid recovery in the state touched 92.78 per cent as2,59,418 of the total 2,79,582 positive cases have already been cured and discharged from the hospital.

The active cases in the state stand at 18,882, about 6.75 per cent of the total covid tally while the covid positive cases stand at 6.53 per cent.
