CHANDIGARH: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday said it was unfortunate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president J P Nadda were terming farmers’ agitation as “bicholiyon ka sangharsh” (a struggle by middlemen).
Former minister and SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said the truth was that farmers were agitating against black laws passed by the central government. Cheema requested both the Prime Minister and the BJP president to express regret for their anti-farmer statements. “Farmers understand the laws will eventually destroy their future generations. If the Centre does not want to listen to the voice of farmers and not repeal the three agriculture marketing laws, it should at least not do anything to hurt their sentiments,” said the Akali leader.
He requested the state government to talk to farmers in earnest and resolve their grievances. The SAD spokesperson also said it was unfortunate that farmers had been insulted during their last visit to Delhi when no minister deemed it fit to meet them.
