GURUGRAM: The enforcement wing of the department of town and country planning (DTCP) on Friday sealed an illegal guesthouse in South City 2, launching a crackdown on such structures situated on internal roads in violation of the new norms.
Residents of South City 2 had earlier complained about Oyo Townhouse operating on an internal 12-metre sector road, violation of zonal plan, installation of gensets on the road, wastage of water and electricity. According to them, the four-storey building, housing 35 rooms, had been constructed by one Mohinder Singh and leased out to OYO. This, they alleged, amounted to illegal commercial activity in a residential area.
“It causes a lot of inconvenience to the residents as the guesthouse is running operations round-the-clock, especially during odd hours. Sometimes the visitors are under the influence of alcohol and openly drink on the premises and outside as well, which threatens the safety of residents, especially women,” said a resident.
District town planner RS said the guesthouse also violates the Haryana Building Code, 2017 as it doesn’t have the designated parking space, resulting in many vehicles standing in the middle of the street. Moreover, the heavy genset that causes noise and air pollution violates NGT guidelines, he added.
On the basis of the residents’ complaints, the DTCP’s enforcement wing carried out a survey and got it removed from the road.
Batth said the guesthouse was issued a show-cause notice and asked to reply within a week, but no satisfactory response was given by it. “The owner has given a written reply assuring he would not operate the guesthouse from the premises. He has been directed to approach the concerned agencies for desealing of the premises as per norms,” he said, adding that a list of illegal guesthouses running on internal roads has been prepared and they would be sealed soon too.
OYO said it has not received any notice yet, but will discuss the issue with the owner.
