So far, India has recorded 78,14,682 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,17,956 deaths. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported the highest number of cases. However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 89.7 percent. 'Unlock 5.0' is underway. Globally, there have been over 4.21 crore confirmed cases of COVID-19. More than 11.43 lakh people have died so far.

Andhra Pradesh on Saturday completed 75 lakh sample tests and so far detected a gross of 8,04,026 positives, including 3,342 in 24 hours, for coronavirus.
The overall infection positivity rate in the state touched 10.72 per cent, three per cent higher than the national average, the latest bulletin said.
The state also reported 22 more COVID-19 fatalities, increasing the toll to 6,566, the bulletin said. The number of active cases dropped to 31,469.

The number of active cases has now come down to 27,681 and the number of those getting discharged from hospitals after recovery stands at 4,33,703, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said.
The recovery rate of the state has gone up to 92.62 per cent, he said.

Antibodies against the novel coronavirus follow a classic pattern with a rapid increase within the first three weeks after symptoms, and detectable up to seven months post contracting the disease, according to a new study which assessed 300 patients infected with the virus and 198 post-COVID-19 volunteers.
According to the research, published in the European Journal of Immunology, the participants had antibodies with confirmed neutralisation activity for up to six months post infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

A debate has started on whether the COVID-19 vaccine, which is yet to materialise, should be made available to people for free, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) promising free doses of the vaccine in its manifesto for the Bihar polls.
