Kerala reports 8,253 new COVID +ve cases, 6,468 recoveries: Health Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 24 (UNI) Kerala reported 8,253 new COVID-19 cases, State Health Minister KK Shailaja said on Saturday.

On a positive front, 6,468 patients also recovered.

The Minister, in a statement here this evening, said: " Total 7,084 people were infected through contact and the contact source for 939 was unknown. Total 67 healthcare workers were among those infected today."

She said 25 recent deaths were confirmed today as caused by Covid, taking the death toll in the state to 1,306. The deceased are Sundar Raj (75), Nirmala (68), Gopakumar (53) & Aruna (58) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Divakaran Nair (74) from Kanyakumari (TN); Sudhakaran Pillai (59), Hawamma (90) & Radha (74) from Kollam district, Nuruddin (55) from Alappuzha district, Kunjumon Joseph (55) & Chacko Mathew (80) from Kottayam district; Varghese (85), P K Soman (60) & K V Saidu (73) from Ernakulam district; Abu (84), Kareem (66) & Sujan (54) from Thrissur district, Raveendran (63) from Malappuram district, Amanullah Khan (68) & Mohammad (83) from Kozhikode district; D Murthy (77), Mahmood (71), Dasan (78) & C P Moosa (75) from Kannur district, and Shambhavi (70) from Kasaragod district, she added.

The district-wise figures for those who tested positive for Coronavirus are Ernakulam 1,170, followed by Thrissur 1,086, Thiruvananthapuram 909, Kozhikode 770, Kollam 737, Malappuram 719, Alappuzha 706, Kottayam 458, Palakkad 457, Kannur 430, Pathanamthitta 331, Idukki 201, Kasargod 200 and Wayanad 79. Of those diagnosed, 163 have come to the State from outside.



The numbers for the locally transmitted cases from the districts are Ernakulam 894, Thrissur 1,070, Thiruvananthapuram 751, Kozhikode 738, Kollam 730, Malappuram 688, Alappuzha 693, Kottayam 391, Palakkad 179, Kannur 326, Pathanamthitta 278, Idukki 87, Kasargod 186 and Wayanad 73.

The count of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Ernakulam 17, Thiruvananthapuram & Kannur 9, Kozhikode 8, Kasaragod 6, Thrissur 5, Kottayam 4, Palakkad 3, and Kollam, Pathanamthitta & Wayanad 2.

The district-wise tally of patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 951, Kollam 738, Pathanamthitta 250, Alappuzha 472, Kottayam 517, Idukki 49, Ernakulam 538, Thrissur 481, Palakkad 459, Malappuram 207, Kozhikode 940, Wayanad 126, Kannur 355 and Kasaragod 385.

At present, there are 97,417 patients still undergoing treatment while 2,87,261 people have so far been cured of Covid in the State.

There are a total of 2,83,517 people under isolation across the state, 2,60,062 at their homes or at institutional quarantine centres and 23,455 in hospitals. Total 3,429 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.

She said 67,593 samples were tested during the last 24 hours with a total of 42,80,204 samples having been sent for testing till now.

Today there are 16 new hotspots while eight places have been excluded. There are 624 hotspots in Kerala now.
