PANAJI: Goa’s
Covid death count shot to 565 on Thursday with seven
deaths, including that of a 20-year-old man from Porvorim reported. The state’s tally of active
cases reduced to 2,990 with the number of cured people exceeding
new cases.
The day saw 247 new cases as against 348 recoveries, taking the tally of total recoveries to 38,031. The recovery percentage was pegged at 91%. The positivity rate on Thursday was 20%, a point less than on Wednesday.
Dean of the Goa Medical College (GMC) and in-charge of the state’s Covid hospitals, Dr S M
Bandekar said that though a decline in Covid cases has been seen, they would wait till the end of the month to see how the graph moves.
Of seven deaths reported on Thursday, four occurred in GMC. One patient died a few minutes after he was admitted to the hospital, while another, a 65-year-old man from Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, died after a few minutes he was brought to the GMC.
The 20-year-old man from Porvorim had developed Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. He was also detected with acute kidney disease shortly after he was admitted to hospital over 10 days ago.
He did not have any comorbidity, the mortality bulletin stated. A health official attached to Porvorim health centre said the deceased’s case is being investigated.
A similar incident was reported from Hospicio Hospital, wherein the patient — a 64-year-old man from Nuvem — died within two hours of admission. While he was detected with
ARDS at the time of admission, he did not have any co morbidity other than diabetes.
