More trouble for Republic TV

Mumbai, Oct 23 (UNI) Mumbai Police on Friday registered a case against the editorial staff of Republic TV for allegedly defaming them through certain news.
The case was lodged at N M Joshi Marg Police Station after CID Police Sub-Inspector Shashikant Pawar registered a complaint against the news channel.
As per the complainant, certain reports were broadcast on Thursday which allegedly defamed the Mumbai Police and their Commissioner Param Bir Singh.
The channel had broadcast a report “Revolt Against Param Bir? Senior Officers Part of Probe Give Details”.
An FIR was registered against Republic TV executive editor Niranjan Narayanswamy, deputy news editor Sagarika Mitra, anchor/senior associate editor Shivani Gupta, deputy editor Shawan Sen, and several editorial and newsroom staff.
The Republic TV called the action by the police as "witch-hunt" and "assault on media rights".
