Former Meghalaya CM dubs MDA ‘incompetent’

Shillong, Oct 23 (UNI) Former Chief Minister and currently leader of Opposition in Meghalaya
Dr Mukul Sangma on Friday lashed out at the National People's Party-led Meghalaya
Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, calling it ‘most incompetent’ and alleged that there is
lack of seriousness and commitment in the present dispensation to resolve the differences
between different communities arising out of the Ichamati issue.
“They are busy doing something else. That is looting the state with impunity,” Sangma told
reporters after the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting on Friday.
He also said that the failure of the government to act on time on all the narratives which
have created misunderstanding amongst communities and which generated aggressive
social media circulation has defamed the state.
"Things have taken such a turn because of the inept, incompetent government which is still
sleeping over the matter which could have been resolved a very long time ago,” the former
Chief Minister said.
Sangma said that the breakdown of government machinery in responding to call of duty is
a matter of concern.
He also said illegalities are happening in the state because the official machinery is being
pressurized to indulge in such activities.
“What is the government doing when such vicious, unpleasant narratives are being circulated.
It does not augur well for the state. People of the state are peace loving. Our government in
the past had overcome such challenges and the government of the day is expected to
overcome such challenges and resolve it in time,” the opposition leader said.
Sangma maintained that prior to 2018 when the Congress was in power, the perception
about the State was very positive in the outside world.
He said that the State ultimately emerged as the most favoured destination with a number
of national and international travel magazines making positive stories about Meghalaya.
“But gone are those positive stories and these are being replaced by narratives which are
unpleasant and as concerned members of the society of the state we feel perturbed,” the
opposition leader added.
Sangma also informed that opposition Congress would take up the problem along the
inter-state boundary and will express concerns in delay over completing the entry/exit points
and also the implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act during
the winter session of the Meghalaya Assembly slated to begin from November 5.
