One more COVID-19 related death, 88 fresh cases in Meghalaya

Shillong, Oct 23 (UNI) One more Covid-19 related death, that of a 24 year-old man from
Shillong took the fatality count due to the disease to 79, while 88 fresh cases took active
cases up to 1631 and 111 recoveries took the number of recoveries to 7091 in Meghalaya
on Friday.
With 1,046 active cases, East Khasi Hills, including Shillong is the most COVID19 hit
district in the State.
Of the fresh cases, Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said that 50 were from
East Khasi Hills district, 21 from West Garo Hills district, six from West Jaintia Hills district
and one each from South Garo Hills district, East Jaintia Hills district and East Garo Hills
district.
He said the new recovered cases included 74 from East Khasi Hills district, 11 from
Ri-Bhoi district, seven each from West Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district,
five from East Jaintia Hills district, two each from West Khasi Hills district and South
West Khasi Hills district and one each from South West Garo Hills district, West Jaintia
Hills district and East Garo Hills district.
Till date, 1,94,818 tests have been conducted in the State, out of which 1,86,017 came
out negative for the viral infection, even as the number of entrants to the State from
outside was registered at 51,332.
Meghalaya has so far registered 8,801 COVID--19 cases, including 1,631 active, 79
deaths with a case fatality rate of 0.90, while 7091 persons have recovered from the
viral infection.

KSU seeks ‘independent inquiry’ into radiation leakage

Shillong, Oct 23 (UNI) The powerful Khasi Students Union (KSU) has rejected the Meghalaya government’s move to have an inquiry into the alleged leakage of ‘radiation" in uranium-rich
South West Khasi Hills district bordering Bangladesh by IIT Guwahati and North Eastern Hill
University (NEHU), which are centrally funded universities and thus, according to the Union
appear as "Dependent Agencies" and not "Independent Agencies ".
