Hyderabad: The Centre has released long pending funds of Rs 202.3 crore for the development of roads in Telangana. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has approved the amount for repairs and maintenance of 868 kilometres of eight National Highways that pass through the State.
In a statement here on Friday, the Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy thanked Nitin Gadkari for granting the amount and said that the decision was taken immediately after meeting the Union Minister on Friday. Kishan Reddy said that the amount will be useful for the State to undertake repairs to the highways that were damaged in the recent floods.
He said that the amount granted by the Center is 85 per cent more than the proposals sent by the State government. He said that the amount should be used to repair the roads in such a way that traffic will move smoothly without any potholes in future. He said that the Centre will be ready to release more funds as and when the need arises.
