JIND: Over 4.1 lakh cases are pending in the Punjab and Haryana high court till October 6, an RTI query has revealed.
The RTI application was filed by a Kaithal-based activist Mehar Chand Ravish whose own case for a job matter has been pending for the past four years.
In the reply, the joint registrar (buildings)-cum-public information officer in court revealed that 6.21 lakh cases were registered in Punjab and Haryana high court between 2016 and October 6, 2020. In the same period, 5.15 lakh cases were disposed of and 4.1 lakh cases are pending till October 6.
Even during Covid-19 outbreak, 39,074 persons got registered their cases in the high court between March 3 and October 6. And in the same period, 24,529 cases were disposed of and 14,545 are pending.
The RTI activist urged the judiciary to open courts along the lines of other services that have been resumed.
