Over the issue of closure of their road connecting Gaunswaddo due to highway widening work at Kamarkhazan junction, residents of Kamarkhazan on Thursday gathered in large numbers to demand a solution by constructing an underpass at the junction. Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo assured locals to take up the issue with the state government.
Due to widening of the National Highway, the Kamarkhazan junction in Mapusa has been closed. However with the construction of a new highway the access to the road from Kamarkhazan has been blocked and local residents have to now travel an extra kilometer to go to Mapusa.
In this connection on Thursday an inspection was held by Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo in the presence of Commander Prasad Padhye, officer on special duty (OSD) to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, MMC chairperson Ryan Braganza, vice chairperson and local councillor Marlene D’Souza, Franky Carvalho and others wherein local residents were present to raise their grievances.
Raising their grievances the locals said, “Earlier we used to walk to the market or church. Even school children used to walk, however with the closure of the road people including senior citizens and children are forced to travel an extra four to five kilometers”.
The locals said that the late chief minister Manohar Parrikar and former deputy chief minister Francis D’Souza had promised to build an underpass at Peddem junction along with Kamarkhazan junction and a plan was also prepared however highway authorities have not implemented the plan.
