Kerala reports 8,511 new cases, 6,118 recoveries, 95,657 patients under treatment

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 23 (UNI) COVID-19 was confirmed in 8,511 persons in Kerala on Friday while 6,118 patients have recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.
The Minister, in a press release here this evening, said, "Total 7,269 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection in 1,012 was not traceable. Total 82 healthcare workers were also infected."
Meanwhile, 26 recent deaths were confirmed as due to Covid-19: Shobhana Kumari (54), Somasekharan Nair (78), Joseph (63) and Shyamala (63) from Thiruvananthapuram district, Karthiyani (87) and Thangal Kunju (70) from Kollam district; Gopinathan (60), Ayyappan (70), Shantha (84), Clement (70), Thresyamma (60), Jolly Joseph (70) and Abdul Hameed (83) from Alappuzha district; Ancy George (54), Lakshmikuttyamma (70), Joseph Mathew (86), Vasu (76) & Eliamma (97) from Kottayam district, Abdul Rahman (76) and N P Usman (68) from Ernakulam district, Pareed (70) from Thrissur district; Mohammad Koya (85), Gopalan (59) and Abdulla Koya (82) from Kozhikode district, and Abdul Razzak (67) and Mariyam (90) from Kannur district are the deceased. This takes the Covid related death toll in the state to 1,281.
The district-wise numbers for the new positive cases are Malappuram 1,375, Thrissur 1,020, Thiruvananthapuram 890, Ernakulam 874, Kozhikode 751, Alappuzha 716, Kollam 671, Palakkad 531, Kannur 497, Kottayam 426, Pathanamthitta 285, Kasaragod 189, Wayanad 146 and Idukki 140. Of those diagnosed today, 148 have travelled to the State from outside.
The count of those infected through contact from the districts are Malappuram 1,303, Thrissur 1,004, Thiruvananthapuram 670, Ernakulam 560, Kozhikode 712, Alappuzha 696, Kollam 668, Palakkad 239, Kannur 418, Kottayam 393, Pathanamthitta 223, Kasargod 175, Wayanad 133 and Idukki 75.
The tally of the infected healthcare workers from the districts are Ernakulam 22, Kannur 15, Thiruvananthapuram 14, Thrissur 8, Kozhikode 6, Malappuram & Kasaragod 5, Pathanamthitta 4, Kottayam 2 and Kollam 1.
The district-wise figures of the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 712, Kollam 540, Pathanamthitta 327, Alappuzha 192, Kottayam 172, Idukki 77, Ernakulam 649, Thrissur 939, Palakkad 239, Malappuram 324, Kozhikode 983, Wayanad 113, Kannur 538 and Kasaragod 313.
Till now, 2,80,793 people have been cured of Covid in the State and at present, there are 95,657 patients undergoing treatment.
There are 2,80,184 persons in isolation in various districts of the state, 2,57,404 under home or institutional quarantine and 22,780 in hospitals. Total 2,770 people were hospitalised today.
She said 64,789 samples were tested in the last 24 hours while a total of 42,12,611 samples have so far been sent for testing.
She said 12 new places were assigned as hotspots today even as 14 areas have been excluded. Currently, there are 616 hotspots in Kerala.
