COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police have arrested a 23-year-old youth for murdering a transwoman. The arrested youth has been identified as R Rajesh from Nagapattinam district who was working in a restaurant run by the transwoman in the city.
Rajesh told the police that he had sexually harassed the transwoman. He murdered her after the transwoman told him that she would file a police complaint against him.
After murdering the 59-year-old transwoman by cutting her throat, he dumped the dead body in a plastic drum in her home and filled it with salt.
The police found the body on Wednesday after neighbours complained of a foul smell from the transwoman’s home in Saibaba Colony.
On Thursday, the Saibaba Colony police arrested Rajesh. He initially told the police that the transwoman had sexually tortured him and so he murdered her. Later, he told them that he had sexually tortured her.
Rajesh stole Rs 20,000 from the transwoman’s home after murdering her and bought a new mobile phone.
Police said he was a Class X dropout and completed an ITI certificate course.
