New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) Cricket legend Kapil Dev who led India to their first first World Cup victory in 1983 has undergone a coronary angioplasty surgery after he was admitted here at a city hospital late Thursday night due to chest pain.
“Mr Kapil Dev came to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Okhla emergency department at 0100 hrs on October 23rd with a complaint of chest pain. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary angioplasty was performed in the middle of the night,” said a hospital statement.
“Currently, he is admitted in ICU and under the close supervision of Dr Atul Mathur and his team. Kapil Dev is stable now and he is expected to get discharged in a couple of days,” the statement said.
Social media was flooded with 'get well soon' messages after the news of his heart attack spread.
Kapil, represented India in 131 Tests and 225 ODIs.
He is the only player in history to claim over 400 wickets (434) and accumulate more than 5000 runs in Tests.
In 2010, the all-rounder was inducted into the International Cricket Council’s Hall of Fame.
