Stating that the state government will solve the garbage problem, the Minister for Waste Management Michael Lobo, on Friday, said that “we will find a solution to Margao Municipality’s garbage problem before the end of our government’s tenure,” and requested the Margao councillors to stop playing politics on the garbage issue.
Lobo, while addressing the media in the presence of North Goa district BJP president Mahanand Asnodkar at the Mapusa BJP office, said that aspiring candidates are making noise over the bio-methanation waste treatment plants proposed at Sonsoddo by Goa Waste Management Corporation.
“I appeal to the Goans not to vote for the people who are playing politics over garbage issue in view of the municipal elections, and ensure that the Sonsoddo garbage problem is solved by us. We are going to tackle the issue as the process is on for Cacora and Bainguinim waste management plants,” said Lobo.
Reacting to the chaos which was witnessed during the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) meeting over the cost of the bio-methanation plants, Lobo said that some councillors were trying to make an issue out of biomethanation plants yet to be tendered.
“We have sent a proposal to the Margao Municipal Council for setting up seven bio-methanation plants at Sonsoddo for approval. The estimate is preliminary, and everything is open and available on the website. No one should misguide people as this problem was not solved for so many years, and we assure to solve the problem, “he said.
He further said, “If anyone can provide a quotation four times lesser than the estimated cost then the government will not mind handing over the contract to that agency.”
He further hit out at the councillors stating that those who are not able to solve garbage problem in Margao have no right to criticise.
“Stop playing politics over garbage issue. You have no right to speak as you have done nothing to solve the garbage problem. If we fail to solve the problem then you have a right to criticise us,” he stressed.
