Eight killed in separate road mishaps in Punjab

Phagwara, Oct 22 (UNI) Eight persons , including two migratory workers and two children, were killed in two different road mishaps in the district Kapurthala and district Jalandhar during last twenty four hours.



In first accident, two labourers were killed on the spot while another sustained serious injuries when a cycle on which they were riding dashed against a tree on Village Boparai—Ghurrka road near Goraya. The deceased were identified as Chhote Lal and Jokham. The injured Rohit was admitted in a nearby hospital.



In another incident, six migrants from Bihar, including two children were killed on the spot ,while three others were injured when a truck hit the four wheeler in which they were returning from Village Biharipur on the Sultanpur Lodhi road near the Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala.

The injured were admitted in a Kapurthala hospital. The deceased have been identified as Upinder Mandal (29), his wife Billa Devi (29), his daughter Pooji (6), Sanjeev Kumar (18), Reena Devi (24) and her daughter Karishma (2 ). The Police have registered a case under section 304 A, 279, 337, 338 and 427 of the IPC against the truck driver identified as Harjinder Singh, a resident of Sabuwal village in Lohian.

An action plan is being prepared in this regard. Till this happens, work will be done in all the sensitive places according to the standard from time to time for flood protection.
