NEW DELHI: Employees of Delhi Waqf Board have threatened to go on a strike over “non-payment of salaries for the last five months”. Employees have written to the CEO of the board, apart from representations earlier to the chief minister.
“The Delhi Waqf Board has a staff strength of around 150, of which about 30 permanent employees haven’t received their salaries for the last five months and the contractual staff have not been paid after January,” an official said.
In the letter, the employees have written that apart from salaries, monthly honorarium given by the board to imam’s and muezzins and monthly pension provided to widows and needy people have not been issued.
“The removal of board’s chairman Amanatullah Khan in March has aggravated the problem as signatures of both chairman and CEO are required for clearing of all payments,” he said. “At least 2,000 families have been affected by the non-payment of salaries, honorariums and pensions by the board. We hope some solution will be worked out,” he added.
Khan’s tenure as chairman ended with the dissolution of the Delhi legislative assembly in February 2020.
Delhi government has launched a special audit into alleged irregularities by Khan during his tenure as the board’s chairman and a fourmember team is auditing records from March 2016 to March 2020.
