Aurangabad thunders with 2nd cloudburst in 24 hrs

Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Oct 22 (UNI) A cloudburst was witnessed on second straight day here on Thursday as heavy rains accompanied with thunderstorm and strong winds briefly lashed this city.
Explaining the weather phenomenon, MGM APJ Abdul Kalam Astronomical Science Center and Club Moderator Srinivasa S Aundhkar stated that if it rains a 100 meters per hour or more, it is called a cloudburst.
He further said the rain which Thursday started at 1405 hours, turned into thunderstorm in the next three minutes and the downpour was too intense at 1415 hours.
He told during the short period of 16 minutes--1405 hours to 1421 hours--30.2 mm rain was recorded.
In the said period, the average rainfall was 177.7 mm per hour, which is higher as compared to the heavy spells on Wednesday, he mentioned.
On Wednesday too, this city recorded 50 mm rain within just 24 minutes. The normalcy had not yet started limping back when today's cloudburst again threw normal life out of gear.
