A month ago a landslide has claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman
VASCO: Following a letter from the Mormugao mamlatdar to the South Goa collector, informing him that officers of the PWD and WRD departments refuse to take responsibility of submitting proposals for measures to halt further landslides at New Vaddem, the collector has decided to hold a joint meeting of the PWD and WRD to work out a solution.
Naik mentioned in the letter dated October 9 that since the PWD and WRD officials stated that the work did not come under their purview, he was requested by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida to report the matter to the collector.
Sources at the office of Agnelo Fernandes, additional collector II, South Goa, stated that Fernandes had sent a reminder to the PWD and WRD on October 12 requesting them “to speed up the matter regarding preparing of detailed proposal for providing permanent measures” to the problem of “huge boulders on the hillock”.
Councillor Nandadeep Raut said that he has also sent a reminder to the South Goa collector and “requested him on phone to consider the urgency of the work”.
