Ex-Telangana Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy passes away, CM condoles

Hyderabad, Oct 22 (UNI) Former Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy passed away at a Corporate hospital here in the wee hours of Thursday.
He was 86 and is survived by his wife, son and a daughter.
Nayani, who had tested positive for Covid-19 last month, admitted to a private hospital for health complications, post recovery from the infection, and died while undergoing treatment.
Born in an Agricultural family in Neredugomma village near Devarakonda in the erstwhile Nalgonda district, the Senior TRS leader began his career as a trade union leader and joined politics after getting attracted by the socialist ideology of Ram Manohar Lohia.
He elected as MLA from Musheerabad Constituency twice after he won on Janata Party ticket in combined Andhra Pradesh in 1978 and 1985.
Reddy participated in the separate Telangana statehood movement after Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao floated the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2001 and he fought along with the latter.
He served as a Minister in YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s Cabinet from 2004-2006 in the United AP and as Home minister from 2014 to 2018 in the TRS government.
Nayani was the first home Minister of Telangana and he was elected for the third time as MLA from Musheerabad Constituency on TRS ticket in 2004.
The TRS pulled out of the alliance, both in the UPA government at the Centre and from Congress government headed by Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in AP, after two years.
As a Backward Classes Minister, he was incharge of YSR's native Kadapa district.
He had lost a byelection during the term of Assembly from 2004 to 2009 and the general election in 2009.
As he was not a member of the Assembly, Mr. Nayani was inducted into the Cabinet of Mr. Rao as a Member of the Legislative Council. He was denied a party ticket to contest Assembly election in 2018.
He served as a Minister of Prisons, Fire Services, Sainik Welfare, Labour and Employment.
