The seven-piece launch has the right things going for a cult collaboration in 2020
“She has always been the kind of girl I think of when I am designing clothes,” admits Nimish Shah, on approaching Suhani Parekh of Misho for Bhaane’s first-ever jewellery collection. “It was right there, we could foresee this collaboration unfolding beautifully,” he adds as Vogue connected with the creative director ahead of the exciting launch. We see it too—the seven styles of earrings, a choker and a ring seem to organically synthesise Parekh’s fluid vision with Shah’s streamlined approach to the contemporary Indian aesthetic. It was not too long ago that Misho’s ‘Pebble Pods’ stirred up the internet for its sculptural-meets-functionality design. Apart from the imaginative invention, the jewellery label is one of the few cult-favourite names to come out of India with fans around the world including the likes of Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, Kim Kardashian West, and many Bollywood loyalists.
On the inspiration, Parekh reveals that “the collection inspired by the everyday—the curve of the body becomes an earring, the brushstroke from a painting translates into texture and a subtle sensuality of construction imbues the pieces with artfulness and audacity.” One look at the gold-plated mismatched earrings, molten choker and bauble ring speak of how contemporary culture and mid-century sculpture come together in the line. Just as their clothing, Bhaane continues to maintain its accessible price points, with the range not exceeding Rs 10,000.
Since his appointment at the Delhi-based clothing label, Shah is dedicated to building a bigger picture. Sustainability in design, production and operations, community-building and strengthening collaborations are part of his vision, and now jewellery too. “I am always thinking of style; clothes, jewellery, and accessories always come together in harmony to build a personality,” he tells us. In the time of Zoom calls he believes that “jewellery are such happy little things for any dressing up scenarios. They are perfect cherries for self-adornment. As a label, it is an irresistible organic extension.”
“Bhaane has dabbled in jewellery in the past. This is not the same as that—there is a sense of command, independence, and maturity to this edit,” he adds.
While the ‘off duty choker’ and ‘mismatched earrings’ top Parekh’s wish list, Shah’s favourite piece from the line is the ring. “It feels medieval and yet extremely modern. It’s the kind of thing girls would wear with a big black shirt in the day,” he imagines.
The limited-edition collection will be available at Bhaane.com, and in flagship stores across Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.
