In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Association of All Goa Muslim Jamaats on Wednesday issued an advisory to all Masjid committees, jamaats and organisers against taking out processions or julus on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi celebrations to be held on October 30.

The decision has been taken considering the safety of the community members in particular and the society at large as well as to help the government efforts to prevent the spread of infection in the state.

In a statement, president of Association of All Goa Muslim Jamaats Bashir Shaikh said that the decision to cancel the procession was taken recently after consulting the executive members of the association.

“To keep this positivity of daily reduction in number of positive cases in our state, the president along with executive members of our association have decided not to have any julus or procession,” the advisory reads.

The advisory also referred to a study which said that large gatherings are the main cause of spread of COVID-19 across the globe as social distancing is not maintained in such gatherings.

“In our efforts to keep our families and society safe from this deadly virus, we request all the Masjid committees, jamaats and organisers not to indulge in any form of gathering of large people in their respective areas during Eid-Milad,” it added.
