Advisors to Lt Governor Sinha,DGP pay rich tributes to martyrs

Srinagar, Oct 21 (UNI) Advisors to Lt Governor, other senior civil officers and Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh on Wednesday paid rich tributes to martyrs on “Police Commemoration Day” at Zewan on the outskirts of Srinagar.

Police Commemoration Day was also observed at different headquarters, including frontier district of Kupwara, Handwara, Baramulla, Badgam and Awantipora, where tributes were paid to martyrs.

On this day 10 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred in Chinese attack at Hot Spring in Ladakh in 1959.

After Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, his advisors R R Bhatnagar and Baseer Ahmed Khan Advisors Chief Secretary BVR Subramanyam, DGP Singh laid floral wreaths on the Martyrs at Armed Police complex Zewan.

DGP Singh said 13 personnel of J&K police were among 40 security personnel killed this year in line of duty in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said during the past one year 13 policemen and 27 other security forces personnel were killed in militancy and other violence-related incidents.

He said the recent causality was Inspector Muhammad Ashraf who was killed by militant in Anantnag on Monday evening. “I met the family members of martyred Ashraf and his daughter told me that she wants to keep the mission of her father alive. However, he said, the families of policemen killed in line of duty were being provided with due compensation to their next of kin .



DGP said the police commemoration day is observed since October 21, 1959 when ten CRPF men lost their lives fighting Chinese forces in Ladakh.

A police spokesman said Police commemoration day was also observed at District Police Lines (DPLs) Budgam, Kupwara , Handwara and Awantipora.

At DPL Baramulla officers from District police, Army , Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and civil administration also paid tributes. Families of Martyrs were provided gifts as a token of respect, besides this DIG NKR also gave patient hearing to NOKs of martyrs.

He said Kulgam Police pays rich tribute to its martyrs on Police Commemoration Day 2020 and conducted commemoration parade in remembrance of martyred policemen who sacrificed their precious lives in the service of community and safeguarding the nation.
