As Hyundai is preparing to launch the third generation i20 in India, over in Europe, the carmaker has revealed its sportier version called the i20 N.
To transform the i20 into a hot hatchback, Hyundai has given it a sporty body kit and a more powerful engine. The car features redesigned front and rear bumpers and side skirts with red accents, a roof spoiler and 18-inch wheels. It has black interiors with blue accents, sports seats, sport steering wheel with a red button marked "Rev", metal pedals and a digital instrument cluster with unique graphics.
Under the bonnet, it gets a 1.6-litre, turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 204 BHP and 275 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and comes with a limited-slip differential. The car has a power-to-weight ratio of 171 BHP per ton.
Hyundai has also beefed up the suspension. The i20 N gets new joints, springs and shock absorbers. Larger diameter brakes provide better stopping power.
The i20 N comes with five driving modes - Normal, Eco, Sport, N and N Custom, which can be used to alter the engine response and sound, steering feel, ESP and rev-matching. The car also comes with launch control.
