Amazon will let its employees who can work from home allow them to do so through June 2021. Amazon's corporate employees have been working from home since March and the company had previously said that employees could work from home until January.
"We continue to prioritize the health of our employees and follow local government guidance," an Amazon spokeswoman said in an email to Reuters. "Employees who work in a role that can effectively be done from home are welcome to do so until June 30, 2021."
"Amazon has invested significant funds and resources to keep those who choose to come to the office safe through physical distancing, deep cleaning, temperature checks, and by providing face coverings and hand sanitizer," the spokeswoman said.
Apple, Facebook and Uber have also extended their work from home policies at least until early 2021. Twitter has allowed employees to work from home indefinitely. Google announced several months ago that it will continue letting employees work from home until July 2021.
Amazon's blue-collar warehouse employees have continued working at the e-commerce company's facilities around the US, Reuters noted. Some staff, elected officials and unions in recent months have said that Amazon put employees' health at risk by keeping warehouses open during the pandemic.
