CHENNAI: DMK president M K Stalin on Wednesday expressed concern over the steep rise in onion prices and urged the Tamil Nadu government to take a firm stand against the contentious Farm Act.
In a statement, Stalin urged the TN government to steps to control the rise of onion prices that touched Rs 130 per kg. The government should procure onions in large scale immediately and ensure that it is available at a nominal price for the public, he said.
“If the new acts that are supported by the AIADMK government come into force, it will allow hoarding of essential items and vegetables like onion. The price of the vegetable will rise manifold,” he said. So the AIADMK government should not implement the Farm Acts, he added.
