The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday assured the members of Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) of resolving the issue of the pension scheme for retired seamen and widows, says a press communiqué issued here by the Department of Information and Publicity.
A delegation of Goan Seamen Association of India submitted a letter to Chief Minister requesting the government to restart the scheme.
Retired seamen and widows were receiving financial help through Goa Welfare Pension Scheme for Seafarers for last 5 years.
It was informed that the scheme was stopped without intimating the beneficiaries, thereby causing inconvenience to
them.
Chief Minister Sawant gave a patient hearing to the delegation over their grievances and assured to resolve the matter at the earliest.
President of Goan Seamen Association of India Frank Viegas and other members were present during the meeting.
