Centre, state collaborating for self-reliant Goa: CM

Stating that the work to de-silt the Tillari canal which will be done at a cost of about Rs 1.5 crore will provide employment opportunities to locals, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the Centre and the state government will work together to realise the dream of a self-reliant Goa. 

Sawant was speaking after inaugurating the Tillari canal cleaning and sludge removal work at Sal Bicholim Vadaval taken up by the Rural Development Agency, Goa government and the Water Resources Department.

With the approval of the said work entailing cost of around Rs 1.5 crore through MGNREGA, the Centre will provide direct employment opportunities to local men and women, he added.

Chief Minister Sawant said that from now on many jobs of government works will be given to local people.

He said that the Centre has provided Rs 1.43 crore while the Goa government has provided a nominal Rs 7 lakh for cleaning the 120-km-long Tillari canal, which will provide employment to hundreds of people.

According to Minister for Ports Michael Lobo, cleaning of the canal will provide employment opportunities to hundreds of local people.

Speaker Rajesh Patnekar said that the government faces a big task to provide employment opportunities to locals.
