Khammam: The sacrifices made by police officers will be an inspiration to future generations, said Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.
He said the police service was full of challenges and as many as 284 police personnel have lost their lives protecting law and order in the country this year. The police services and sacrifices were invaluable and everyone has to honour them.
Ajay Kumar participated in the Smriti Parade at police parade grounds in Khammam marking the Police Commemoration Day on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said all possible support would be given to the families of police martyrs and they would be provided double bedroom houses.
The District Collector RV Karnan and the District Judge M Laxman have lauded the services offered by the police during the Covid-19 lockdown. The people in the district were living peacefully because of the committed efforts of the police personnel. Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqubal explained the historic importance of the day. He said the Khammam police were at top in the implementation of people-friendly policing initiatives.
He informed that in the past, 22 personnel of erstwhile Khammam have laid down their lives in the line of duty. Khammam Commissionerate police have made an effective contribution in containing the spread of the coronavirus and about 404 personnel and officials were infected with the Covid-19.
Later, the Minister presented certificates of appreciation to the police personnel who offered best services. MLAs S Venkata Veeraiah and L Ramulu Naik, ZP Chairman L Kamalraj, SUDA Chairman B Vijay Kumar, Mayor G Papalal and senior police officials were present at the programme.
At Kothagudem, Smruti Parade was conducted at Police Headquarters at Hemachandrapuram where the police presented guard of honour to Additional SP (Operations) V Tirupathi.
