Railways expects festive season to push freight higher in coming months

In a sign of recovery, the Indian Railways’ freight traffic has seen an 18 per cent increase in October so far, over the same period last year. There was a 15 per cent increase in September.

The recovery in freight came after it touched a historic drop of 65 per cent in April 2020, over the same month in 2019. Indian Railways expects the festive season to push freight higher in the coming two months. An item-wise growth in traffic from April to October gives a deeper understanding of which commodities are attracting more demand.
