Moderna Inc Chief Executive Officer Stéphane Bancel expects interim results from its Covid-19 vaccine trial in November and that the U.S government could give an emergency use nod in December, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

Pfizer, BioNTech start combined trials of Covid-19 vaccine candidate in Japan

Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE announced on Tuesday the start in Japan of combined Phase I and Phase II clinical trials of their mRNA vaccine candidate against the coronavirus. The study will recruit 160 people aged 20 to 85, the companies said in a statement. They had earlier agreed to supply Japan with 120 million doses of their experimental coronavirus vaccine in the first half of 2021.

UNICEF to stockpile half a billion syringes by year-end to prepare for Covid-19 vaccinations

The UNICEF said it will stockpile 520 million syringes in its warehouses, as part of a larger plan of one billion hypodermic needles by 2021, to guarantee initial supply and help ensure that syringes are available in countries before the Covid-19 vaccines arrives.

Global Covid-19 cases top 40.3mn: Johns Hopkins

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has increased to 40.3 million, while the deaths have soared to 1,117,430, according to the Johns Hopkins University.As of Tuesday morning, the total number of cases stood at 40,333,146, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 8,210,849 and 220,095, respectively, according to the CSSE.
