Odisha reports 1,904 new COVID-19 cases, 16 fresh fatalities

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s COVID-19 tally surged to 2,72,250 on Tuesday as 1,904 more people tested positive for the infection, while 16 fresh fatalities pushed the coastal state’s coronavirus death toll to 1,168, a health official said.

After a gap of more than two months, Odisha reported less than 2,000 new cases for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, he said.

As many as 1,115 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 789 people tested positive for the infection during contact tracing, the official said.

Khurda district, under which Bhubaneswar falls, reported the highest number of fresh infections at 221, followed by Nuapada (128) and Cuttack (111), he said.

Four fresh fatalities were reported in Mayurbhanj, three each in Khurda and Kalahandi, two in Nuapada, and one each in Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jharsuguda and Kendrapara districts, the official said.

Ganjam district has so far reported the highest number of coronavirus fatalities at 225, followed by Khurda (201) and Cuttack (104), he said.

Fifty-three coronavirus patients have died due to other ailments so far, the official said.

Odisha now has 21,454 active coronavirus cases, while 2,49,575 people have been cured of the disease so far, he said.

The state has so far tested over 41.17 lakh samples, including 35,027 on Monday, the official added.
