Man of the match KL Rahul
"It's not the first time, I'm getting used to it but we'll take the two points however they come. It doesn't always happen so you don't know how to stay balanced in a situation like this. We have put in some really amazing performances even in the games we lost. We're trying to come back harder in each game and wins like these help. After wicket-keeping for 20 overs, batting in the first six is very crucial. We knew it would get slower with their decent spinners, so Mayank and I got a good start over 50 runs. When Chris plays against spinners, I trust them to take down the spinners. Chris coming in helps, he is an experienced player and knows how to carry the team through. You can't prepare for Super Overs, no team prepares for Super Overs. You have to trust your bowling group and it is important you let them believe their instinct and gut. Shami was certain he wanted to go for six yorkers and he has been phenomenal for us. It is important seniour guys put their hands up for us. We still want to take it one game at a time and when you haven't won a lot in the first seven, every victory is sweet. The talk in the dressing room is to focus on the process and stay calm. That is the kind of mood we want to set and everybody is professional and competitive and they want to win games. We know we need to win everything from here, but not at the cost of processes, we need to enjoy ourselves here."
"The thought was if I could keep it inside, I could save runs. It was all about just keeping the ball inside the field. It was just the shock of the elbow hitting the ground. It can get hard, but you definitely cannot live without it. The mindset was we have nothing to lose. First ball six, and then the pressure was off us. It was just about going there, watching the ball and then hitting. We’re just happy that we got two points, and getting a win against a team like Mumbai is big! It was a dream come true to play the IPL, and this is one of the top-most leagues in the world. This game will go down in history as well. It’s amazing to be sharing a dressing a room with them. I think he’s a wonderful player. The kind of performances he’s putting for his side is unmatchable, remarkable!" says Mayank Agarwal in a post-match interview
"It shows that 1 run and 2 runs are very very crucial in T20 cricket. I am sure it was great for viewership. Kings got the better of us and deserved the two points. Around the 11-12 overs, we knew we were a couple of overs behind. Getting 170-odd, that was a good total - above-par on a track that was a on the slower side. We should have won this I believe deep down. These things happen," says Kieron Pollard, who's speaking to the broadcasters after the match on behalf of his captain, who's not feeling to well after the excruciating evening.
Kings XI Punjab stop Mumbai Indians' five match winning streak and register their second win in a row and do so in dramatic fashion. The two teams were level after 40 overs at 176 each. Then after first Super Over at 5 runs. In the second super over, KXIP chase down 12 runs from 4 balls.
KXIP now need 12 runs to win. KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran can't bat. Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal to try and chase it down. Trent Boult to try and defend it.
BALL 1, KXIP 6/0: SIX! Now that's one way to start. Not from Trent Boult though. Full toss and Gayle powers it into the stands.
BALL 2, KXIP 7/0: Short ball this time and Gayle pulls it and keeps it down to collect a single. Considered a second but turned it down.
BALL 3, KXIP 11/0: Mayank Agarwal with beautiful timing to collect a boundary. The scores are now level.
BALL 4, KXIP 15/0: KXIP win! Another full toss and Mayank Agarwal sends it to the boundary. KXIP BEAT MUMBAI INDIANS IN THE SECOND SUPER OVER!
BALL 1, MI 1/0: Perfect yorker from Jordan to start with and a single is collected.
BALL 1, MI 2/0: Wide. Well wide.
BALL 2, MI 3/0: Another ball on the money. Pandya collects a single too.
BALL 3, MI 7/0: First boundary of the Super Over comes from Pollard's bat. Outside off and the half volley is smacked for a four.
BALL 3, MI 8/0: Another wide. Outside leg this time.
BALL 4, 9/1: Full and low full toss. Pollard gets his feet right and they look to collect a second. Throw is at the right end and on the point. Pandya is run out.
BALL 5, 9/1: Outside off, Pollard is adjudged to have edged it behind to KL Rahul. Pollard reviews. There was a sound but there is no bat.
BALL 6, MI 11/1: FANTASTIC FIELDING! Mayank Agarwal goes flying and prevents a certain six. Gets both hands to it, and pushes it to safety. They collect a double. KXIP to chase 12 runs for the win.
Bit of a confusion over who can play and who can't in terms of batting and bowling. The IPL has tweeted, "The six players who've participated in the first Super Over cannot play the next Super Over." That would mean everyone including Pollard can't play. But he's walked out alongside Hardik Pandya. Anil Kumble having a chat with the umpires. The ends have been changed too. Chris Jordan has the ball. Pollard takes the strike, Pandya at the non-striker's end.
BALL 1, MI 1/0: Quinton de Kock looks to play into the leg side. Moved to the side to steer the ball but didn't get the angle right. They collect a quick single.
BALL 2, MI 2/0: Another single. Rohit Sharma miscues slightly. But safe enough to keep it down and collect a single.
BALL 3, MI 3/0: Shami with a full delivery and De Kock with a single.
BALL 4, MI 3/0: Once again Shami with a yorker. Rohit does well to defend it. Hopes to collect a quick run but the run is never on. Dot ball.
BALL 5, MI 4/0: Rohit looks to scoop but doesn't connect. Collect a quick single. But KL Rahul takes the DRS. Big inside edge on to the pad.
BALL 6, MI 5/0: Shami with another delivery into the block hole. De Kock once again plays into the off side and need two there. One is completed but not a second. KL Rahul with brilliant keeping to run De Kock out. WHAT AN OVER! WHAT KEEPING! ANOTHER SUPER OVER!
MI chase 6 runs from 6 balls
Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock with the responsibility of chasing this down. Pollard the next in if needed. Mohammed Shami has the ball. KL Rahul delivering the pep talk. This has to be a fantastic talk if KXIP are to win or even force another Super Over.
IPL 2020 LIVE SCORE, Mumbai Indians vs Kings XI Punjab latest updates: Kings XI Punjab stop Mumbai Indians' five match winning streak and register their second win in a row and do so in dramatic fashion. The two teams were level after 40 overs at 176 each. Then after first Super Over at 5 runs. In the second super over, KXIP chase down 12 runs from 4 balls.
Preview: For a change, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will go into a game with winning momentum in their stride as they gear up to face high-flying Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 36 of IPL 2020 at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
KL Rahul-led side secured only their second victory in this season against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday. Captain and Chris Gayle scored impressive half-centuries as KXIP chased down a target of 172 thanks to a last-ball six from Nicholas Pooran.
Gayle, who was playing his first match in this year's tournament, announced himself with a bang so that's the biggest positive for Punjab. But despite being in a very comfortable position, KXIP took the match till the final ball, and almost made a mess of the situation, like a few times they did already in this season.
There will be no room for errors for KXIP as they will be up against MI, who have been one of the best sides this season along with Delhi Capitals. Rohit Sharma's side has won five matches on a trot, with 12 points to their name from eight matches.
Quinton de Kock is in sensational form with the bat while the bowlers have also delivered when it mattered. But Mumbai, as a side, do not depend on one particular player and that has been their USP. On Sunday, it will be interesting to see if the team management will look to rest some of their key players or go with the same winning combination.
