Covid-19 hit world torn between matter over mind

New Delhi, Oct 19 (UNI) The tally of COVID-19 cases in India surpassed the 75-lakh mark on Monday as 55,722 cases were reported during the past 24 hours.

According to the daily update from Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total cases now stand at 75,50,273 while the death toll mounted to 1,14,610 with 579 fatalities being reported in past one day.

Of the fresh fatalities, 150 were reported from Maharashtra, 64 from West Bengal, 56 from Tamil Nadu, 51 from Karnataka, 39 from Chhattisgarh, 29 from Uttar Pradesh and 28 from Delhi.

The active cases saw a drop of 11,256 since yesterday and maintained below 8 lakh for the third consecutive day. At present, there are 7,72,055 active cases of coronavirus infection.

The front-line medics were able to save 66,399 more lives, taking the total recovery count till now to 66,63,608 which is 88.26 per cent of the caseload.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research, as many as 8,59,786 samples were tested on Sunday, taking to 9,50,83,976 the total cumulative samples tested since the beginning of the pandemic till Monday.

Addressing through video-conference the Centenary Convocation of Mysore University, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that concerted efforts are being made to address the educational needs of the 21st century.

Meanwhile, shadow of nCov loomed over Haj.
