Women account for more than half of the total accounts opened under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. In response to an RTI, the Finance Ministry said that the number of women accounts in the Jan Dhan Yojana is 55 percent.

Under the scheme, 40.63 crore accounts have been opened till 9 September 2020, of which 22.44 crore accounts are for women and 18.19 crore are for men. Till September, the total deposits in these accounts have increased by 8.5 percent to Rs 1.30 lakh crore. However, the ministry did not say how much of this amount is deposited in the account of women. There are 3.01 crore accounts in which there was zero balance.

As of October 7, the total number of accounts on the government website has increased to 40.98 crores. Out of this, there are 32.48 crore accounts in public sector banks. 7.24 crore accounts have also been opened in regional rural banks, while private banks opened only 1.27 crore accounts.
