BSP supremo Mayawati has expressed displeasure over Kamal Nath, calling Imrati Devi an item-jalebi. She tweeted that the remarks made by the Congress leader are anti-women and extremely shameful. The Congress high command should publicly apologize for this statement. She also appealed to the Dalit community not to vote for the Congress in the by-elections.

Former CM Kamal Nath was on a Dabra tour of Gwalior district on Sunday. While addressing a public meeting, he gave an inappropriate statement about Imrati Devi. Taking a dig at BJP candidate Imrati Devi, he said that you recognize her more than me, you should have warned me. What 'item' is she? Kamal Nath smiled as soon as he said this, so the public also started clapping with applause. Kamal Nath also called Imarti Devi as 'Jalebi'.

After this statement, BJP launched an all-out attack on Kamal Nath. BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Scindia have also expressed displeasure over this statement. Scindia tweeted the video and asked people to teach Kamal Nath a lesson. Scindia wrote, "To call Dalit leader Imrati Devi Ji from a backward and labourer family today an item and jalebi in Dabra is extremely condemnable and objectionable - it also shows the mentality of Kamal Nathji. The time has come to teach a lesson to such a crooked leader who insults the entire Dalit society along with women."

BJP state president VD Sharma also lashed out at Kamal Nath and said that using insulting words, Imarti Devi, shows Congress's mentality. He claimed that people of the state would give a fitting reply to Kamal Nath in ongoing by-elections.
