The CBI has registered an FIR against six custom officials for missing 2.6 kg of gold from a warehouse in the city's airport.

Between June 8, 2012, and March 26, 2014, the gold was seized from 13 passengers from Kampagouda International Airport. An FIR has been registered against all the six accused under sections of criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy, cheating, and criminal misconduct.

In fact, on October 12, 2020, the CBI registered a case against two assistant commissioners, three superintendents of central tax, and another officer.

In its FIR report, the CBI had directed an internal inquiry to the Directorate General of Vigilance of the Hyderabad Zone unit of the Customs Department and found that the gold had disappeared during the duty of these officers at the airport.

The CBI has said that these officers were negligent in keeping the gold recovered from the passengers in the warehouse. The officers misused their position and after being seized did not enter the gold in the list nor handed over the next shift officers.
