UP govt creates record man-days in MGNREGS: One-year target achieved in six months

Lucknow, Oct 19 (UNI) Setting a new record even during the time of Novel Coronavirus, the Uttar Pradesh government created 26.14 crore man-days in the MGNREGS works, achieving the target of one year, in just six months.
''The target of creating 26 crore man-days was set for the year 2020-2021, but it was achieved in just six months,'' Additional Chief Secretary of Panchayati Raj department, Manoj Kumar Singh said here on Monday.
He said this was despite the fact that the actual work could start in April only, due to the lockdown.

Attributing this to the efficiency of his team and the guidance of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath for prioritising the job creation mechanism, he said the MGNREGS works are in the progress in all districts of the state.

In another landmark, as many as 62.25 lakh MGNREGS labourers were employed on a single day on June 26, 2020.
This was the day, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the 'Atmanirbhar Uttar Pradesh' scheme. This was the highest number of MGNREGS labourers being in employment on a single day ever, Mr Singh pointed out.

He said the average number of labourers working on a single day in MGNREGS has increased to 16 lakh post COVID-19, while this number was just seven lakh last year. As on October 19, 2020, 20 lakh labourers were in the job.

The 'jobs to all ' policy of the state government has proved beneficial for lakhs of migrant workers, who returned to UP from different locations. About 11 lakh of migrants, including women, were given job in the MGNREGS works, the ACS added.
