No relief in sight as incessant rains continued to lash Hyderabad on Monday

Hyderabad, Oct 19 (UNI) Incessant heavy rains lashed many parts of the already rain-ravaged Hyderabad on Monday even as more heavy spells of rains were forecast for the next three to four days.
The rains which began in the afternoon caused more problems in the scores of submerged and flooded colonies and localities adding to the untold miseries of the people in the affected areas.
Many roads were inundated affecting free flow of traffic while some roads including Puranapool was shut following today's rains.
The rains which have been lashing the city and other parts of Telangana since last week had claimed 60 lives in Telangana, and 33 of them in the city.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T.Rama Rao who reviewed the situation at a high level meeting said that 80 senior civic irrigation and other departments officials have been deployed to oversee relief and rescue operations in the affected areas in the city.
He said that 80 residential colonies in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) areas have been inundated and people from the affected areas were being shifted to relief camps.
He said 20 boats had already been pressed into service for the evacuation of people from flooded and low lying areas and 30 more boats were being requisitioned from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka states for the purpose.
The Minister said that the city received the second highest rainfall in 100 years adding that when the Musi river was flooded 100 years ago, the rainfall then was 43 cms as against the current rainfall of 120 cms.
He said Rs five lakh ex-gratia each was already paid to 29 families of those killed in the rain-related incidents. So far, the government had spent Rs.60 crore for relief operations, Mr Rao added.
The Minister said that the government had already submitted a letter seeking Rs 1,350 crore Central assistance for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
He thanked the Tamil Nadu government for extending Rs ten crore financial aid besides supplying blankets for the affected people.
The weather office, meanwhile, said that heavy rains in isolated places, light to moderate rains and thunderstorms were likely in the state during the next three days.
