BHOPAL: The school education department released the fitness protocol under Fit India movement. It has sent a copy of protocol to all schools in the state.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought increased focus on the need to adopt sustainable practices and get back to the active lifestyle while taking healthy diet that has been a part of culture since ages. “It is therefore, the right time for Fit India Movement to spread awareness about importance of physical activity and nutrition as fundamental pre-requisites to develop a strong immune system, healthy mind and body,” a message from school education department stated.

The fitness protocol has been divided into three categories. First is for students from class 1-3 (age 5-8 years), second for class 4-8 (age 9-14 years) and third category for students of class 9-12 (age 15-18).

Exercises mentioned for children from class 1-3 focus on movement skills. Common games that include exercises like animal walk, cat and cow pose, running, jumping, walking on heels and other such traditional games are part of the exercises.

For students of class 4 -12, focus is on sports. For students of class 4-8, main exercises aim at developing endurance and strength. Advance forms of similar exercises have been kept in third category for students of class 9-12. Yoga has also been included from stage one. A proper format for warm up and cool down exercises for different age groups have also been designed.

Global action plan

The Global Action Plan for Non-communicable Disease, which is endorsed by United Nations General Assembly, sets a goal of a 10% reduction in levels of physical inactivity by 2025 along with other targets to prevent premature mortality. The programme will help attain reaching the goal.
