VC of CCSHAU urges researchers to continue work

Chandigarh, Oct 19 (UNI) Vice-Chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, Professor Samar Singh, urged the scientists that they should continue their research work in view of the prevailing dynamic climatic conditions and international competition.
This will on one hand, uphold the quality of crops, on the other hand, it will also boost its demand in the international market.

He was addressing the 49th High-Level Meeting of the Research Programme Committee held online at the University as Chairman. He said this while scientifically developing new varieties and techniques of crops, fruits, and vegetables, one must also keep in mind that its benefits should reach every farmer with the smallest holdings.
Besides this, organic farming should be encouraged so as to curb unsuitable eating habits and diseases which are increasing due to excessive use of chemicals. He said we have to adopt developed technologies like drone technology, robotics to ensure maximum benefit reaches farmers and ensure that these technologies are farmer-friendly.
Citing concern for the depleting groundwater level he said the water problem is increasing day by day, thus it is very important to adopt water-saving techniques and labor-intensive technology. He also appealed to the farmers to remain in touch with the University so as to get agricultural information regularly.

Dr S K Sehrawat discussed the agenda of the last meeting in detail and said about 250 varieties of cereals, pulses, oilseed crops, vegetables, and fruits have been developed by the University in the last few years. In addition, the University has 17 patents, 2 designs, 5 copyrights, and a trademark.
The University has an important role in food grains storage of the country. Scientists and senior officers of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research also attended the meeting and reviewed various issues of the Research Programme Committee. The scientists suggested that if the farmers practiced farming in groups then they will be able to bear the cost of expensive techniques and become economically stable by making maximum profit.
