Patiala: Thief stabs man to death, injures two; nabbed

PATIALA: The police in Patiala have nabbed a man who had allegedly stabbed an elderly resident to death and injured his son while making an attempt of theft in the house.
The police said that he was a habitual offender and several cases of theft have been registered against him under sections of IPC.
The police have identified the accused as Gurmeet Singh, 19, of Patiala city and he has been booked in a theft case, around two months ago at the same Tripuri police station.
The police revealed that on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday that the accused was caught by the inmates while attempting theft in the house. The police said that an elderly man identified as Bhan Singh raised an alarm following which his son woke up and reached to nab him but meanwhile but the accused had injured Bhan Singh by assaulting in his chest.
"Bhan Singh was rushed to the hospital later by the neighbours but he could not survive and succumbed to injuries following excessive bleeding. The accused attacked both Bhan Singh and his son with the same sharp-edged weapon”, said SHO Tripuri police station.
He added, “The accused committed a crime with a tool used to break the large ice-pieces. He attacked the men in the house and managed to escape. We have now nabbed him and already registered a case under sections of murder and attempt to murder on the complaint of Ramandeep who is the son of deceased Bhan Singh. The injured Ramandeep is stable in condition. So far only one case of theft has been detected but we are verifying about the other cases of theft registered against the accused”, said, Station House Officer Tripuri police station.
